I can’t believe that mine did NOT make it to the finals. I wonder if they even received it. Who can be sure?

I can’t believe that mine did NOT make it to the finals. I wonder if they even received it. Who can be sure? I think that all submissions should’ve gotten a confirmation email to say that they received it. Well, for those of you that did not hear my version, here it is.

One more thing, I don’t understand how ANY of these people made the last 8 when the tracks are CLARLY out of key with Carlitta’s vocals.

I don’t see my name on the list ;) pretty satisfied with my remix. Oh well, good luck to the last 8. DJ Bobbybob stands out the most for me.

    I agree with brandon.

Seems like a few ppl have mixed the acapella with one of their old beats, the choruses sound awful.

    Brandon, i feel your joint.

Also, as far as i can tell, all the above beats contain samples of commercial music.
Now sampling records can acieve some incredibe results, but perhaps for a contest judging the ‘talent’ of producers, there should have been greater emphasis on the ‘producers’ coming up with their own sound. Chopping up an old record and adding a drum loop does not constitute ‘talent’ in my eyes. What would the greats like Quincy say about such ‘producers’.

Anyways, here is my sample free version, crafted around the vocal with at least an attempt at some kind of structure and melody…

Bobbybob, Danimal, and Qvali were my favorites. I got a few bad opinions, but I won’t hate. But the Chuck Mack one sounds like the vocals are sped up. Was that allowed? I assumed we were leaving the acapella as is. The Melanko one, I’m pretty sure uses the same sample that Pete Rock & CL Smooth used for ‘It’s Like That.’
I don’t see why people complain about sampling. If it sounds good, it sounds good.

Anyways, here’s my submission, except I took out the keyboard that I had on the version I entered into the contest. Enjoy my quick intro vid too.

I think the producer with the best chorus should win this contest. A lot of you had hot loops but none of you were able to make the chorus sound smooth and really accentuate the singing.. cept for one…

Dj Bobbybob killed it. Your shit sounds like Jigga should be spitting on it channeling Reasonable Doubt and Blueprint flows… Respect! The bass is awesome too. The snap of the snare really blends well with the delivery of the rappers… you got a lot of talent bro, it actually sounds like you took the time to listen to this song and capture the essence of how it makes the listener feel. Peace

ps. someone link me to bobbybob’s music. thanks

Bobby was DOPE but Dario kill it!!!!!
    nice remixes!

qvali – nice beat, the cuts set the remix apart from others
bobbybob – smooth, vocals too low, bit boring
chuck mack – pretty nice, but the sound is too clean, more pop than hip hop
Dario – best drums of the finalists, chorus is a bit disharmonic, but the rest is nice
Melanko – the sample is cool for the parts, but the chorus really hurts my ears
CH, Count Bassy, Danimal – I think there must have been better submissions than these.

Brandon, yours was good but it wasnt the best….BUT It clearly was better than these though…I think this whole thing was a setup to just further promote Tanya Morgan……Most of these are even worse than the original version of “never enough” and that one was horrible too…..When you hear songs like “Hardcore Gentleman” and “So Damn Down” You expect more from the other producers and their beat selections…

  23. Posted September 19, 2009 at 7:25 am | Permalink

I’m sure mine wasn’t the best but it was definitely better than there!!!!! LOL!!!!! I just want to know who won.
